After several years of live streaming on the Amazon-backed platform, content creator Meowri has just received her first Twitch ban. Hours after teasing fans on social media with a “Playboy Bunny Cocktail Stream” in a bunny suit, the popular character was quickly removed from the streaming site.
“Banned for wearing a bunny suit,” Meowri said on Twitter shortly after being banned against her will. It was intended to appeal the penalty immediately, and a follow-up investigation revealed more details about the ban itself. Her account is scheduled to be reinstated on April 11 due to the 24-hour ban.
From Twitch’s perspective, the bunny suit was considered “inappropriate clothing” for live streaming, thereby invalidating the platform’s terms of service. Many people took to Twitter to discuss the controversial idea in their replies.
“Others, though, live in bunny suits,” content colleague Su Su chimed in. In response, Meowri said some particularly angry viewers may have forced Twitch to take the first crackdown on her account. “I wouldn’t be surprised if someone blocked the reporting feature,” she said.
However, others have given similar experiences, with one particular internet celebrity, Holly Wolf, detailing that she was allegedly banned from Twitch for the same reason. She claimed that instead of live-streaming in a bunny costume, she was banned from wearing only the bunny costume in her profile photo. “It’s those damn exposed buttocks.”
